This is my hand at poetry. I thought of it while I wrote "Memories" but couldn't find a place to include it in the narrative. Think of it as the delete scene of that story.

Ina’s Song

The chant in my head, though left for dead.

I could not leave the past behind.

I live eternally on, not sure why.

The stone, black as night, caused my flight

Silver speckled with stars.

To think it was this that caused me to be marred.

This token I claimed as mine

I wandered far and wide,

Never understanding why.

To my home, to The Stone

The motions of the past repeat

My life I see before me, alone.

Bowing my head, “Oh Defeat!”

Like a moth to the flame,

I seek the answers to my pain.

The maiden’s chant in my head

Seeing my past, my life, my dread

In the end, it was nothing more than memories

Memories of that Night,

Traditions that I held tight.

Why wander these haunted grounds?

When I know that life no longer abounds.

What is this stone?

Have I found home?

Or will this too flutter away

Like the moths do, or am I doomed to stay?

In the dark He came

The God of Death is my fate

Like the moths of the night

My heart now took flight.

No longer without purpose

This strange feeling began to surface.

Memories of Night

My heart took Flight.

In this moment after all this time

I found the love that was to be mine.

What inspires you to write?

"What makes you itch to pull out that keyboard and type away? Or to go "old school" and pull out a pen and paper?"

This is question I have been asked and frankly, the answer changes.

My stories can be sparked by a song. Something haunting or just unearthly playing will conjure images of a place or a scene that I must capture. Other times its in nature, first I try to capture it on my camera-I love to take photos but I am a hobbyist at best. For example, Mother Nature has given us not just one but two Aurora Borealis that were visible from my home in Colorado. It is the material for any number of scenes to write! The colors, the unreal beauty of it! Other things that inspire me are just being outside, like a foggy day, or a sunrise over the snow that makes the world glow orange and pink.

Inspiration can come from anywhere-even a smell. Next time you are out about, see if something inspires you! It doesn't have to be a story, but art comes in all forms and from anywhere.

In the spirit of the month, I love to pull down from my shelves all my "scary" stories. My favs to read in October every are:

Dracula by Bram Stoker

" The Curious Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" by Robert Louis Stevenson

Any of Edgar Allan Poe's collections , my personal favorite is a collection from 1943 that was given to me by my great grandfather before he passed away at the age of 99.

The Cold Fire trilogy by C. S. Friedman
